It is possible to obtain various German Riding Badges. The badges are part of the education system of the German Equestrian Federation. The different levels can be obtained based on your riding skills. Below is a brief summary of each.
Riding Badge 10 (RA 10)
The riding badge 10 is the simplest riding badge. It is suitable for beginners. Therefore, the requirements are not so high. It is ridden on the lunge or being lead by a trainer. In addition, the students must be familiar with horse care and help with saddling and brideling.
No age restrictions. Those who have attended an appropriate preparatory course may participate in the test for the riding badge. The riding badges 10 to 6, may be filed in any order and the exams can be repeated several times.
What do you have to do?
Horse riding:
• Riding (with and / or without saddle) on the lunge in a light seat and trot and / or light seat in walk and trot (short distances)
• The requirements are checked in the outdoor area at the guide.
Stationary tests:
• Station 1
Horse care: ex. grooming with brush and pick, hoof and tail care, feeding the horse / pony after work, helping with the saddling and bridle
• Station 2
Groundwork: Approaching the horse, guiding and holding at a given point, tying, recognizing safety on the stable lane
Passed?
The knowledge and skills of the horse and the basic knowledge about the horse are assessed. Furthermore, the assessment is based on how the rider sits on the horse in a balanced and relaxed manner and performs the exercises. The test result is "passed" or "failed", so there are no grades. If the exam does not exist, the entire examination can be repeated as soon as possible.
Riding Badge 9 (RA 9)
Riding Badge 9 must be ridden without lunge or rider. In addition, the students must know how to handle the horse, hold the horse correctly and have knowledge in the field of horse behavior.
All riders are with no age restriction, but have attended an appropriate preparatory course, may participate in the test for the riding badge 9. The riding badges 10 to 6 may be filed in any order and repeated several times.

What do you have to do?
Horse riding:
• Riding in the group, trot, and gallop
The requirements are tested in the outdoor area in all basic types.
Stationary tests:
• Station 1
Preparation of the horse for riding (care, assistance with saddling and bridling, adjusting the stirrups)
• Station 2
Principles in the field of horse behavior, ethical principles
• Station 3
Passed?

What do you have to do?
1. Partial examination dressage
Introduce the horses / ponies according to the instructions of the instructor in line with the class E. Riding without a bracket at least in the step. If possible, it should be ridden on the
field.
2. Partial examination Seat training / riding with shortened stirrups
Riding a skill task including riding in the light seat in its various forms and over jumps and ground poles
The partial pole test is optional. It is not a mandatory part of the seat training examination/ riding with shortened stirrups. The requirements are met if riding takes place outside on uneven ground, in the light seat, up- and downhill.
3. Partial exam of station tests
• Station 1
Races, colors, badge, physique
• Station 2
Basic knowledge about the seat shapes shown, riding impact figures, track layout
• Station 3

Riding Badge 7 (RA 7)
With the riding badge 7, riding in an easy manner and over ground poles is added. In dressage, a task is ridden as instructed by the instructor. The students are able to ride in the department, understanding the riding figures and the gaits. The examinees know the ethical principles and are aware of their particular responsibility towards their four-legged partner. How to avoid accidents in handling the horse is also known.
All riders without age restrictions who have attended an appropriate preparatory course may participate in the test for the riding badge. The riding badges 10 to 6 may be filed in any order and repeated several times.

What do you have to do?
1. Partial examination dressage
Introducing the horses / ponies (individually or in pairs) in dressage. Rider receives the tasks from the instructor in the dressage arena of a class E show. Riding without straps is shown at least in the trot.
2. Partial test riding in the light seat and over ground poles
The partial exam riding over poles can be additional, if it is not to replace the partial test riding in the light seat and over ground poles. The requirements are met outside on uneven ground, in the light seat and in various speeds.
3. Partial test of station tests

In the riding badge 6 first low jumps and in the dressage a task has to be completed at the class E evel. In the station tests, it is necessary to show how well you know your horses, feeding and horses' health. The knowledge of the ground work is completed with the triangular projection.
All riders without age restrictions who have attended an appropriate preparatory course may participate in the test for the riding badge 6. The riding badges 10 to 6 may be filed in any order and repeated several times.

Riding Badge 5
All riders who have attended an appropriate preparatory course may participate in the test for the riding badge 5. There is no age limit for the riders who want to take the riding badge 5. In addition, there is the possibility to place the riding badge 5 discipline-specific (RA 5 dressage, RA 5 jumping, RA 5 terrain). These riders must be at least 21 years old and have the riding badge 7 and 6.
Requirements for the riding badge 5 are:
• Membership in a horse sport club, which belongs to one of the FN's affiliated regional and / or affiliated associations,
• the possession of the basic course badge or the riding badge 7 and 6 and the participation in the preparatory course.
• The horses presented in the test must be at least 5 years old and far along in the training that it meets the testing requirements.

• Dressage rider task based on class E (single or two)

2nd partial test jumping
A. Review of riding in an easy seat
B. Class E: The seat and the impact of the rider, the harmonious handling of the assigned tasks and the total impression during the partial test are judged.
The partial test railings can be additional, if it is not to replace the partial test jumping. The requirements are tested according to a class E competition levels.
3. Partial test of station tests
• Station 1: verbal exam in regards to riding instructions according to the
requirements of class E
• Station 2: Knowledge of the entry into the competition grounds
• Station 3: Knowledge of accident prevention
• Station 4: ground work: demonstration on the triangular track, training with jumps (example: holding over the bar, versatile cross, rod labyrinth), systematic desensitization (environmental
irritation)
Who has passed?
Candidates must have achieved at least the average score of 6.0 from all partial examinations. No single test of a partial test may be less than 5.0. If this grade is not achieved in one of the partial examinations, the examination can be repeated at the earliest after three months. For the existence or non-existence of the RA 5, the partial test has no relevance to poles, unless it replaces the partial test jumping.
Riding badge 5 (dressage)

Riding Badge 4
There is no age limit for the riders who want to take the riding badge 4. There is the possibility to place the riding badge 4 disciplines-specific (RA 4 dressage, RA 4 jumping, RA 4 terrain).
Requirements for the riding badge 4 are:
• Membership in a horse sport club, which belongs to one of the FN's affiliated regional and / or affiliated associations,
• the possession of the riding badge 5 and
• participation in the preparatory course.
• The horses presented in the test must be at least 5 years old, and so far along in their training so that they meet the test requirements.
What is required?
The examination consists of practical and theoretical partial tests.
1. Partial examination dressage
• Dressage rider test class A according to the task manual, riding individually or in pairs;
• Aids are not allowed.
2nd partial test jumping
• a) Verification of riding in the light seat
• b) Class A * jumping test with standard requirements
• The partial test side of the poles can be additional, if it is not intended to replace the partial test jumping. The requirements are tested according to a class E classification.
3. Partial test of station tests
• Station 1: verbal exams with regard to their own practical test (s), riding instruction according to the requirements of class A, scale of training
• Station 2: Fitness of the rider
• Station 3: Basic equipment for a riding horse
Who has passed?
Candidates must have achieved at least the average score of 6.0 from all partial examinations. No single test of a partial test may be less than 5.0. If this grade is not achieved in one of the partial examinations, the examination can be repeated at the earliest after three months. For the existence or non-existence of the RA 4, the partial test has no relevance to railings, unless it replaces the partial test jumping.
Riding badge 4 (dressage)
